Paying the ultimate price

In the age of Roman domination, only Rome used crucifixion as a means of killing people. They crucified criminals and dissenters regularly, and they did it as a show of power and intimidation.

The crucifixion of Jesus was intended to be another public demonstration delivering the message: do not rebel, or you will pay the ultimate price.

Indeed, the ultimate price was paid … but not in the way the Romans thought it would be.

Instead of delivering a message of strength, it was the beginning of the end of the cross as a symbol of Rome’s power. The death of our Savior transformed the cross from a symbol of Roman domination to an enduring symbol of God’s sacrificial love for us.

A transformed cross and a transformed us

Christ did pay the ultimate price, which covers all ours sins. His sacrifice transformed us from sinners in need of atonement to Christians eternally saved by the love of Christ when we submit our lives to Him – just as one of our pregnancy center clients did on Saturday.

As we remember the death and resurrection of our Savior this weekend, we celebrate the transformation of the cross as a symbol of crushing power to a symbol of the ultimate sacrifice … and we give thanks for the ultimate, eternal transformation that our Savior’s death makes possible.

Praise God for transforming our lives – and for giving us the opportunity to see the lives of others transformed through the ministry you help make possible at Life Network.
