A Generational Impact

Karrie* is a 20-year-old client who came into the Center accompanied by her mother. She felt that having an abortion was the only solution to her problem, and planned to carry out her decision to abort on the following Saturday. Karrie knew her mother meant well and would be supportive; however, she was aware that her mom didn't want her to abort the baby. Although Karrie was determined to go through with her plan, she did decide to accept our offer of an ultrasound.
In the middle of the counseling session, Karrie's mom suddenly started telling her daughter about her own abortion experience as a teenager. The mom confessed that she never wanted to tell Karrie about her abortion because she didn't want her daughter to think any less of her. Karrie's mom had kept her secret for a long time, but now felt compelled to share in hopes of preventing her daughter from experiencing the same guilt and heartache that she had lived with for so long. With tears in her eyes, the counselor left the room to allow the mother and daughter time to talk. God was clearly at work in the lives of these two women.
Karrie returned for her ultrasound still undecided about how to handle her situation, but God was actively preparing this young girl's heart for what she was about to see. The atmosphere in the ultrasound room was overwhelming as mother and daughter witnessed the life of the baby for the first time. Karrie's resolve miraculously changed as she began to develop an unequivocal love for the child growing inside her. She was able to look at her baby as a miracle, not a problem. The Lord used many people to bring Karrie to this point in her life, including her own mother who cared enough to share a painful secret from her past. The Holy Spirit beautifully orchestrated the details in such a way that the lives of three generations will forever be changed.
